Todd Bowman, PhD, Director of the SATP Institute

Todd Bowman

Dr. Todd Bowman is currently serving as an Associate Professor of Counseling at Indiana Wesleyan University in addition to working as the Director of the SATP Institute. Dr. Bowman received his doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Oklahoma State University in 2008 and has been practicing professional counseling since that time. During his time at OSU, he served as the Director of the Nazarene Student Center. Dr. Bowman developed the SATP program in 2011 at MidAmerica Nazarene University and it remains the only Higher Learning Commission accredited and United States Department of Education recognized sexual addiction training for mental health professionals. He continues to write and present locally, nationally and internationally on topics related to sexual health and sexually addictive behavior, including the publication of his first book, Angry Birds & Killer Bees: Talking to Your Kids About Sex (Beacon Hill Press, 2013). In addition to his specialized work assessing, diagnosing, and treating adults and adolescents with sexual addictions and attachment related concerns, Dr. Bowman has specialized training is in stress management, anxiety reduction, and other affective regulation methods, as well as psychological assessment. He operates from a relational-existential perspective in his work, and regularly incorporates attachment, developmental, and neurobiological perspectives as appropriate.


Mark R. Laaser, M.Div., Ph.D. SATP Fellow 

Mark Laaser

Mark is the President and Director of Faithful & True and the host of The Men of Valor Program, Faithful & True's online radio show. Dr. Laaser is nationally recognized as the leading authority in the field of sexual addiction with over 27 years of recovery experience. Mark has written a dozen books on the subject of sexual addiction, including his groundbreaking book, Healing The Wounds of Sexual Addiction, and his 3-book Men of Valor series. Dr. Laaser lectures around the world and teaches at colleges, universities, religious organizations and treatment centers. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and a Divinity Degree from Princeton Theological Seminary.

Marnie C. Ferree, Founder of Bethesda Workshops

Marnie C. Ferree is the founder of Bethesda Workshops and has a national reputation as a leader in the field of sexual addiction, particularly as it presents in women. In 1997, Marnie established a workshop program for female sex addicts that was the first of its kind in the country and today draws participants from across the United States and Canada. She has directed Bethesda Workshops since 2000. Previously, Marnie provided counseling for sexual recovery (both from sexual abuse and sexual addiction) through the Woodmont Hills Counseling Center, a sister ministry at the Woodmont Hills church.

Marnie is a frequent lecturer at professional and recovery conferences, churches, and schools. She also consults with Christian organizations and churches about sexual integrity, especially in cases where a leader has fallen into sexual sin. Marnie is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (clinical member), the American Association for Christian Counselors, and the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health, where she is on the editorial board of the professional journal Sexual Addiction & Compulsivity. She is a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT) through the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals. Marnie received her master’s degree in counseling from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.
